Testimonials:

I called the helpline and spoke to a kind lady. Finally, I could tell someone about the abuse. I continued to call her for a month on my lunch breaks. She helped me to get up the nerve to get a restraining order and came to the safe house. When I did, my kids and I ran with as little as possible.”

"I was very reluctant and scared to talk about the dating abuse. You put me at ease, and showed me that talking is good and healthy. I realize now that if I hadn’t met you when I did, I would be a very different person today. Thank you for working with me through my most difficult time.”

"I woke up this morning wondering what would have happened to me had JBWS not been there to comfort, support and care about me. You gave me the courage and incentive to feel good about myself and to make my own decisions. My sincere thanks to you.”

"Your lecture on dating violence really did reach someone. It reached me! I will never forget how much it changed my life. I was in a very abusive relationship during the time of your lecture. Your words gave me the courage I needed to break-up with my boyfriend. Because I know first-hand how hard it was to leave him, I want to help others who are faced with the same challenge."

“Prior to and during my stay in the shelter, I didn’t have any energy left for my kids. My time was completely focused on stopping the domestic violence. I could not find a place within my heart or within my day to encourage my children to develop. But an amazing thing happened during the one month we lived in the shelter. Every Tuesday and Thursday a volunteer took my 16-month-old daughter into the playroom for special time. It was during that time that she learned to walk. I truly believe she learned to walk in the shelter because she had someone who actually cared about her while she tried to walk. I never had a chance to thank that volunteer.

“I was determined, from the day I walked into JBWS, to do whatever I could to live my life substantially and abuse free. Living in an apartment in the Carol G. Simon Transitional Living Resource Center, I receive counseling and legal support to get a divorce and I attended budgeting classes. Bit, most importantly, JBWS helped me to become a full-time student on my way to a degree in nursing.”
