JOB DESCRIPTION

JBWS is looking for a caring compassionate individual to join our amazing team.  Our ideal candidate will work in our Morris Family Justice Center to provide support and services to victim of domestic violence and sexual assault and their families to access services and resources.  This individual will have a deep knowledge and understanding of the experiences of marginalized communities, working collaboratively and flexibly to meet the needs of those served. In addition, the ideal candidate has a strong cultural awareness to support all individuals regardless of their race, cultural identity, sexual identity, mental health status and/or substance use.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide an overview of individual assistance offered to prospective clients and screen for eligibility.
  • Provide intake interview and assessment of needs.
  • Provide crisis intervention services and assist with safety planning.
  • Assist clients with short-term and emergent needs i.e. obtaining food, shelter, clothing, etc.
  • Assist victims of domestic violence and sexual assault crimes in seeking Victim Crime Compensation benefits.
  • Research and maintain knowledge of existing resources and develop new resources, especially to meet the cultural and linguistic needs of the clients.
  • Document all worker activities on behalf of the client in the agency database according to agency standards for content and timeliness.
  • Provide advocacy in the following areas: financial; housing; medical; food/furniture/clothing; educational; job training; employment; childcare; legal; mental health; transportation; liaison to shelters; and any other necessary services.

QUALIFICATIONS

Include but are not limited to:

  • BSW or BA in related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Bi-lingual Spanish A MUST.
  • Excellent communication skills; verbal and written
  • Ability to demonstrate and communicate proper affect, empathy, and compassion.
  • 2 years experience with case management and advocacy services required, with preferred experience addressing needs of individuals who have experienced DV and/or trauma.
  • Experience utilizing crisis intervention skills, conducting needs assessments, and assisting in safety planning.
  • Experience utilizing a strengths based, client centered, trauma informed approach.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must be culturally aware and sensitive to challenges faced by marginalized populations.

Schedule Requirements:

On-site full-time 35-hour per week position, typically Monday through Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm with some evening and weekend requirements as needed.
