You’re In For A Grand Time

Grand Tastings is JBWS’ premier fundraising event that generates critical funds to support the prevention of domestic violence. In addition to a dynamic program, guests enjoy a grand tasting of signature dishes prepared by notable local chefs and restaurants, as well as delightful samples from select purveyors of wine, spirits, and beer. Attendees also have the chance to participate in a silent auction. Thank you to our Grand Tastings XXIX committee members for making this event possible!

Venue Change:

To accommodate more guests, JBWS is moving Grand Tastings XXIX to the Crystal Plaza located at 305 W Northfield Road in Livingston, NJ. Originally a residential mansion, the Crystal Plaza was built in the late 1800s by famed architect Stanford White, who was responsible for designing the Tiffany building on Fifth Avenue, the original Madison Square Garden complex, and the arch at Washington Square Park.

While the building has been restored, it still maintains the feeling of its 19th century grandeur. From the elegant Grand Ballroom, boasting numerous chandeliers, to the lush gardens that change beautifully with the seasons, the Crystal Plaza is the ideal location for JBWS’ premier fundraising event.

Delectable Dishes:

Guests have the pleasure of sampling dishes from numerous local chefs and restaurants. Throughout its 29 years, Grand Tastings has featured selections from James Beard Award winning chefs and stellar samples of dishes such as: sushi rolls, empanadas, dry-aged ribeye, and desserts.

An Empowering Speaker:

“I am happy.” This simple phrase, spoken by former child resident Jaraun at Grand Tastings XXVIII, is the pinnacle of achievement for a survivor of domestic violence.

Jaraun was a featured speaker at the event and he insisted that JBWS counseling services is the reason his life’s work came to fruition. At JBWS, he learned to manage his emotions, process the trauma he endured, and retain his individuality.

“I remember the staff at JBWS teaching me how to become a kid again,” recalls Jaraun, now a father himself. “I no longer had to play the role of caretaker for my siblings, that was the staff’s job. I could focus on my artwork, run around outside until I dropped with exhaustion, and play table games in the kitchen.” Watch Jaraun’s speech here.

Each year, a survivor shares their personal story to highlight the significance of supporting JBWS.

Silent Auction:

Throughout the evening, guests have the ability to win items in JBWS’ silent auction.

From luxury travel packages, sports memorabilia, and gorgeous jewelry to electronics, designer clothing, and alcoholic beverages, Grand Tastings has something for everyone.
